McMiller Park Biathlon Range

The McMiller Park biathlon range is located in Eagle, Wisconsin at the McMiller Park Sports Center, part of the Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit. A vehicle admission sticker and state trail pass (for those over age 16) is required for individuals using the trails and biathlon range at McMiller Park. Hours

During the spring, summer, and fall seasons the biathlon range at McMiller Park is open only during scheduled times. Check out the event calendar for practice times. During the winter season when the trails are snow covered and open for skiing, the biathlon range is open for use weekdays during daylight hours and weekends from 8am-12pm.



Biathlon Trail

A biathlon-specfic loop has been created at McMiller Park that provides direct access to and from the biathlon range area. The 2km loop consists of rolling terrain and is groomed for both classical and skate skiing. McMiller Park also offers five additional ski loops, ranging in length from 3-10 km with varying degrees of difficulty. All trails, including the biathlon loop, begin at the trailhead near the warming shelter.



Range Rules

Please observe the following rules when using the biathlon range at McMiller Park.

  1. All participants must have first attended a biathlon safety certification clinic and have an active USBA membership in order to use the biathlon range.
  2. A Wisconsin State Park vehicle admission sticker is required for all vehicles entering the state forest. A Wisconsin State Trail pass is also required for all skiers 16 years or older.
  3. All individuals under age 17 must be accompanied by a certified coach, instructor or parent who has completed the safety course.
  4. Individuals who have not completed the biathlon safety clinic may use the biathlon range only in the presence of a biathlon certified instructor.
  5. Rifles to be used are limited to .22 caliber bolt action long rifles, and may not be of automatic or semi-automatic design.
  6. Ammunition must be of standard velocity. Do not use high velocity ammunitions, as it will damage the metal targets.
  7. The rifle must remain unloaded at all times with no rounds in the chamber and no magazines in the rifle, except when on the firing line.
  8. The rifle bolt should always remain open, except while skiing the course.
  9. Rifles should remain covered or in a case unless on the biathlon course.
  10. All participants skiing any of the trails other than the 2 km biathlon trail must have their rifle covered or in a case.
